About UsHistory of DarkerNetDarkerNet was started in 1998 by PreZ and Lord Striker as a chat network that wasnt just a network full of WaReZ and porn. Things pretty much were 'Whatever PreZ and Striker says goes, that's it'. The goal of the DarkerNet IRC Network was to provide a place for Goths, wiccans, roleplayers, and basically people who weren't part of the mainstream of society to congregate and chat freely without having to deal with the 'internet rednecks'. DarkerNet was originally a sister server of GOTH.NET. DarkerNet handled the chat services of GOTH.NET, while the GOTH.NET domain gave users back to DarkerNet. DarkerNet also started branching out into other fields with things such as the DarkerNet Banner Exchange, and even a fledgeling online radio station starting up. However, in early 2001, after issues between the administration staff and other issues, the administration more or less abandoned DarkerNet, and stopped sigining onto the IRC network themselves, so the network itself eventually died. So, in October 2001, PreZ decided to re-visit his now delinquent network and give it a new policy, a new face, and revive the ailing network along with the help of Lilith (our Webmistress) and Raider, who had just left another network disillusioned with the way things were being run there. A fresh start for all. This new incarnation of DarkerNet now has an official network charter (which perscribes who can do what, and what rights and responsibilities every person on DarkerNet has). This time, DarkerNet is being done the right way. Things such as server link applications are being properly processed, and services now go through a testing phase before being just put onto the production network. We have also relaxed the standards of what is allowed on the network, and have turned the network more into a place for anyone to come and chat, as opposed to being a network only for a specific group of people. This being said, DarkerNet's roots have not been forgotton, and DarkerNet is still the chat back end for the GOTH.NET website. Current HeirachyDarkerNet's power structure is no longer a 'what whoever says goes' setup. Instead, we have opted for a power structure that more mirrors that of the services we have chosen to use, Magick. The highest member in the current heirachy is the network founder. The network founder owns the darker.net domain, and has the sole job of appointing (and removing) Services Administrators. Services Administrators are responsible for making any changes in the DarkerNet charter, and approving server link applications. Services Administrators are also responsible for handling any disputes and complains between or against staff. Services Operators report and are appointed by to Services Administrators. Services Operators perform most of the tasks using services that are required for normal day to day operation, including retrieving passwords for users, etc. IRC Administrators also report to Services Administrators, and are the official maintainers of their respective servers. IRC Administrators are responsible for setting policies of whats acceptable on their server, and maintaining it. IRC Operators report to and are appointed by their respective IRC Administrators. IRC Operators are responsible for enforcing both the DarkerNet Charter, and the policies in force on their own respective servers. They are also the first point of contact for any user queries or problems. |
